Batch information

Porcelain paving is a man-made product crafted in batches and may exhibit variations in colour and texture from batch to batch. This potential variance means that the porcelain you receive upon ordering may differ slightly from the samples sent, or our showroom displays viewed before making your purchase. To maintain product consistency, we advise against combining different sizes as these will inevitably be different batch codes. It is industry standard to allow an additional 10% on all orders.

Should you have any concerns about these variations, please reach out to our sales team for personalised guidance. We recommend keeping note of the โ€˜batch colour codeโ€™ labelled on the packaging of the delivered porcelain. This is a white label of the side of the pallet and also the packing of each individual slab.

While we strive to source the same batch for future orders, this isnโ€™t guaranteed. Therefore, we encourage ordering sufficient quantities initially to maintain uniformity in your project.

Split packs
Split Packs Available

We offer split packs on selected paving products, including natural stone paving (sandstone, Limestone, slate, granite) and our best-selling 600×900 porcelain paving. This allows you to order the exact square metre coverage you need, helping you avoid the cost and waste of buying a full pack.

This option is ideal forย smaller projects, patios, pathways, or topping up an existing order.

Please note:

  • Split packs are available onย selected products only
  • Mixed-size porcelain paving packs cannot be split
  • Delivery is included in the product price
  • Orders areย securely repacked onto pallets for safe UK delivery
Ordering Advice

When calculating how much paving you need, we recommend addingย 10% extra coverageย to allow forย cuts, breakages, and spare slabsย during installation.

Mixed-size project packs can only beย split by square metre, not by individual slab sizes.

Why Customers Choose Split Packs

โœ”ย Buy only what you need โ€“ no full pack required
โœ”ย Perfect for small patios, garden paths, and extensions
โœ”ย Secure pallet delivery included

Help & advice

Measurement

Make sure you measure from the longest point to the longest point, side to side and front to back. Use our coverage calculator to help you know what your requirement coverage is.

Add 10% Extra

The recommended industry standard is that you add 10% extra to your total measurements to allow for cuts, wastage, breakages and spares. By placing your order with us, you confirm that you have added this 10% extra as part of your own calculations and purchase.

Minimum Order

We can sell the paving by the sqm, however, for optimal transit, we recommend ordering a minimum of 5 sqm to ensure proper pallet weight.

Coverage

The coverage for each pack size is available on all products under the โ€˜Specificationโ€™ section. This indicates the area that can be covered, including the recommended joint width. Additionally, we provide the pack size, which indicates the number of slabs included in each pack.

Cut of times

For both standard and premium deliveries, the cutoff time for same-day dispatch is 11 a.m. If you need your order urgently and have missed this cutoff time, please call our team, and we will let you know if there is anything we can do to assist you.

INSTALLATION GUIDE โ€“ OUTDOOR PORCELAIN PAVING

To achieve the best possible finish and long-term performance from your outdoor porcelain paving, it is essential that the correct installation methods are followed. Due to its dense, non-porous structure, porcelain paving requires specific preparation and installation techniques to ensure a successful installation.

This guide applies to all outdoor porcelain paving slabs used for patios, pathways, terraces, courtyards and garden landscaping projects.

BEFORE INSTALLATION

Check Batch Numbers

Before installation begins, always check the batch numbers shown on the packaging.

Minor variations can occur between production batches, including:

โ€ข Shade
โ€ข Tone
โ€ข Surface pattern
โ€ข Texture variation

For the best visual result:

โ€ข Ensure all packs are from the same batch where possible
โ€ข Blend slabs from multiple packs during installation
โ€ข Dry lay the paving before fixing where practical

Once installed, the product is considered accepted.

Pattern Variation & Blending Slabs

Many porcelain paving products use a selection of different face designs and print patterns to create a realistic natural stone appearance. While individual patterns will naturally repeat throughout the range, the slabs are designed to be blended during installation to achieve the desired overall effect.

We strongly recommend laying slabs from multiple packs and mixing the different print patterns across the installation area. Failure to blend paving correctly may result in clusters of identical prints appearing together, creating a repetitive appearance that may not reflect the intended design of the product.

Dry laying the paving before installation can help identify pattern distribution and achieve a more natural and balanced finish.

PREPARATION & PLANNING

Before installation:

โ€ข Measure the area carefully
โ€ข Allow an additional 10โ€“15% for cuts and wastage
โ€ข Plan the paving layout in advance
โ€ข Incorporate suitable drainage falls

Recommended fall:

1:60 to 1:80 (approximately 1โ€“2%)

SUB-BASE PREPARATION

A strong and stable foundation is essential.

Recommended build-up:

โ€ข Excavate to the required depth
โ€ข Install a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base
โ€ข Lay a full wet mortar bed

The base must be:

โ€ข Fully compacted
โ€ข Stable and level
โ€ข Free from movement
โ€ข Adequately drained

Porcelain paving should never be laid on spot beds, dry sand or unstable surfaces.

PRIMING SLURRY

Due to the non-porous nature of porcelain, a slurry primer must be applied to the underside of every slab before laying.

For each slab:

โ€ข Apply a full coat of porcelain primer
โ€ข Ensure complete coverage
โ€ข Lay immediately onto the wet mortar bed

This helps create a strong bond between the paving and mortar bed and reduces the risk of movement or failure.

LAYING THE PAVING

When laying porcelain paving:

โ€ข Use a full wet mortar bed
โ€ข Maintain consistent joint widths
โ€ข Use tile spacers where required
โ€ข Check levels regularly
โ€ข Maintain adequate drainage falls

Recommended joint width:

3โ€“5mm for rectified porcelain paving.

Use a rubber mallet carefully to level slabs without damaging the edges or surface.

CUTTING PORCELAIN PAVING

Porcelain paving should be cut using suitable equipment such as:

โ€ข Wet saw with porcelain diamond blade
โ€ข High-quality porcelain cutting disc

Using unsuitable tools may result in:

โ€ข Chipping
โ€ข Poor-quality cuts
โ€ข Cracking

Always wear appropriate PPE when cutting paving materials.

GROUTING & JOINTING

Once the paving has cured sufficiently, joints should be filled using a porcelain-compatible grout or external jointing compound.

Important:

โ€ข Follow grout manufacturer instructions
โ€ข Remove excess residue immediately
โ€ข Avoid allowing grout haze to dry on the surface

IMPORTANT NOTES

โ€ข Blend slabs from multiple packs during installation
โ€ข Batch variation is normal within porcelain paving products
โ€ข Wet paving may appear darker or richer in tone than when dry
โ€ข Installed slabs are deemed accepted
โ€ข Professional installation is recommended for best results

Natural Paving Store cannot accept responsibility for issues arising from incorrect installation methods or failure to follow the guidance above.

AFTERCARE GUIDE โ€“ OUTDOOR PORCELAIN PAVING

Outdoor porcelain paving is designed to be exceptionally durable, low maintenance and easy to care for. Thanks to its dense non-porous surface, porcelain paving resists moisture absorption, staining, algae growth and general weathering, making it an excellent choice for patios, pathways, terraces and garden landscaping projects.

Following these simple aftercare recommendations will help keep your porcelain paving looking its best for years to come.

GENERAL CLEANING

For routine cleaning, porcelain paving can usually be maintained using:

โ€ข Warm soapy water
โ€ข A soft brush or broom
โ€ข Clean water for rinsing

Regular sweeping will help prevent the build-up of dirt, leaves and organic debris.

For heavier dirt or marks, specialist porcelain paving cleaners may be used where required. Always follow the cleaner manufacturer’s instructions carefully and test any cleaning product on a small inconspicuous area first.

PRESSURE WASHING

Porcelain paving can be cleaned using a jet wash or pressure washer when required.

Recommended:

โ€ข Use moderate pressure only
โ€ข Keep the lance moving continuously
โ€ข Maintain a suitable distance from the paving surface
โ€ข Avoid directing high pressure directly into joints

Excessive pressure may damage grout or jointing compounds over time.

SEALING PORCELAIN PAVING

Due to its non-porous surface, porcelain paving does not require sealing.

However, some customers may choose to apply a porcelain-specific sealer to:

โ€ข Assist with routine cleaning
โ€ข Help reduce surface residue build-up
โ€ข Provide additional protection in high-traffic areas

If sealing is chosen:

โ€ข Ensure the paving is clean and completely dry
โ€ข Use a sealer specifically designed for porcelain paving
โ€ข Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully

Please note that sealing porcelain paving is optional rather than essential.

INSTALLATION RESIDUE & GROUT HAZE

Following installation, some paving may display temporary grout haze, cement residue or jointing compound residue on the surface.

In most cases this can be removed using a suitable porcelain paving cleaner once the installation has fully cured.

Always ensure:

โ€ข Cleaning products are suitable for porcelain paving
โ€ข Manufacturer guidance is followed
โ€ข Strong acid-based cleaners are avoided unless specifically recommended

Failure to remove installation residue promptly may make cleaning more difficult at a later date.

RUST & METAL CONTACT

Although porcelain paving is highly stain resistant, rust marks can still occur if metal objects are left in prolonged contact with the surface.

Please take care with:

โ€ข Metal garden furniture
โ€ข BBQs
โ€ข Plant pots with metal bases
โ€ข Steel tools and equipment
โ€ข Decorative metal ornaments

We recommend:

โ€ข Using protective feet or pads beneath metal furniture
โ€ข Avoiding prolonged contact with rusty objects
โ€ข Removing rust marks promptly using a porcelain-safe cleaner

WINTER CARE

Porcelain paving performs exceptionally well in UK weather conditions and is highly frost resistant.

During winter:

โ€ข Remove leaves and organic debris regularly
โ€ข Avoid using metal tools directly on the paving surface
โ€ข Use porcelain-safe de-icing products if required
โ€ข Avoid harsh chemicals that may affect grout or surrounding materials

Porcelain paving is designed to withstand freezing temperatures and seasonal weather changes when installed correctly.

IMPORTANT NOTES

โ€ข Wet porcelain paving may appear slightly darker in colour than when dry
โ€ข Minor installation residue may be visible immediately after installation
โ€ข Always test cleaning products in an inconspicuous area first
โ€ข Avoid abrasive pads, wire brushes or harsh chemical treatments
โ€ข Follow all manufacturer recommendations for cleaning products and sealers

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do porcelain paving slabs require sealing?

No. Outdoor porcelain paving has an extremely low water absorption rate and does not normally require sealing. Some customers may choose to apply a porcelain-specific sealer to assist with routine cleaning, but this is entirely optional.

Is porcelain paving slippery when wet?

Outdoor porcelain paving is specifically manufactured with an anti-slip surface suitable for external use. Most outdoor porcelain paving products carry an R11 slip rating, providing excellent grip underfoot in both wet and dry conditions.

Can porcelain paving be pressure washed?

Yes. Porcelain paving can be cleaned using a pressure washer when required. We recommend using moderate pressure and avoiding direct high-pressure cleaning of grout or jointing compounds.

Will porcelain paving fade over time?

Porcelain paving offers excellent resistance to UV exposure and is designed to retain its colour for many years. Unlike some natural materials, porcelain is highly resistant to fading caused by sunlight.

Is porcelain paving frost resistant?

Yes. Porcelain paving is highly frost resistant due to its extremely low water absorption rate. This makes it an ideal choice for year-round use in UK weather conditions.

Does porcelain paving stain easily?

Porcelain paving is highly resistant to staining thanks to its dense, non-porous surface. Most everyday dirt and marks can be removed with routine cleaning. However, spillages should always be cleaned promptly to prevent potential staining.

Can porcelain paving be used for patios and pathways?

Yes. Outdoor porcelain paving is suitable for patios, pathways, terraces, courtyards, outdoor dining areas and a wide range of residential and commercial landscaping projects.

Why do some slabs have repeating patterns?

Many porcelain paving products use multiple face designs to recreate the appearance of natural stone. As with all printed porcelain paving, some patterns will naturally repeat throughout the range. To achieve the most natural finish, slabs should be blended from multiple packs during installation.

Do porcelain paving slabs need a full mortar bed?

Yes. Outdoor porcelain paving should always be installed onto a full wet mortar bed with a suitable slurry primer applied to the underside of each slab. Spot bedding is not recommended and may lead to installation issues.

Can porcelain paving be cut?

Yes. Porcelain paving can be cut using a suitable wet saw fitted with a porcelain diamond blade or a high-quality porcelain cutting disc. Appropriate PPE should always be worn when cutting paving materials.

Will the paving look different when wet?

Yes. Like many paving materials, porcelain paving may appear slightly darker or richer in colour when wet. Once dry, the paving will return to its normal appearance.

How much extra paving should I order?

We recommend ordering an additional 10โ€“15% to allow for cuts, wastage, breakages and any future repairs. Purchasing all materials at the same time also helps minimise potential batch variation.
