Batch information

Porcelain paving is a man-made product crafted in batches and may exhibit variations in colour and texture from batch to batch. This potential variance means that the porcelain you receive upon ordering may differ slightly from the samples sent, or our showroom displays viewed before making your purchase. To maintain product consistency, we advise against combining different sizes as these will inevitably be different batch codes. It is industry standard to allow an additional 10% on all orders.

Should you have any concerns about these variations, please reach out to our sales team for personalised guidance. We recommend keeping note of the โ€˜batch colour codeโ€™ labelled on the packaging of the delivered porcelain. This is a white label of the side of the pallet and also the packing of each individual slab.

While we strive to source the same batch for future orders, this isnโ€™t guaranteed. Therefore, we encourage ordering sufficient quantities initially to maintain uniformity in your project.

Split packs
Split Packs Available

We offer split packs on selected paving products, including natural stone paving (sandstone, Limestone, slate, granite) and our best-selling 600×900 porcelain paving. This allows you to order the exact square metre coverage you need, helping you avoid the cost and waste of buying a full pack.

This option is ideal forย smaller projects, patios, pathways, or topping up an existing order.

Please note:

  • Split packs are available onย selected products only
  • Mixed-size porcelain paving packs cannot be split
  • Delivery is included in the product price
  • Orders areย securely repacked onto pallets for safe UK delivery
Ordering Advice

When calculating how much paving you need, we recommend addingย 10% extra coverageย to allow forย cuts, breakages, and spare slabsย during installation.

Mixed-size project packs can only beย split by square metre, not by individual slab sizes.

Why Customers Choose Split Packs

โœ”ย Buy only what you need โ€“ no full pack required

Help & advice

Measurement

Make sure you measure from the longest point to the longest point, side to side and front to back. Use our coverage calculator to help you know what your requirement coverage is.

Add 10% Extra

The recommended industry standard is that you add 10% extra to your total measurements to allow for cuts, wastage, breakages and spares. By placing your order with us, you confirm that you have added this 10% extra as part of your own calculations and purchase.

Minimum Order

We can sell the paving by the sqm, however, for optimal transit, we recommend ordering a minimum of 5 sqm to ensure proper pallet weight.

Coverage

The coverage for each pack size is available on all products under the โ€˜Specificationโ€™ section. This indicates the area that can be covered, including the recommended joint width. Additionally, we provide the pack size, which indicates the number of slabs included in each pack.

Cut of times

For both standard and premium deliveries, the cutoff time for same-day dispatch is 11 a.m. If you need your order urgently and have missed this cutoff time, please call our team, and we will let you know if there is anything we can do to assist you.

INSTALLATION GUIDE โ€“ OUTDOOR PORCELAIN PAVING

To achieve the best possible finish and long-term performance from your outdoor porcelain paving, it is essential that the correct installation methods are followed. Porcelain paving is an extremely durable and low-maintenance product, but due to its dense non-porous structure, it requires specific preparation and installation techniques.

This guide applies to all outdoor porcelain paving slabs including patios, pathways, terraces, courtyards, and garden landscaping projects.

BEFORE INSTALLATION BEGINS

Check Your Batch Numbers (VERY IMPORTANT)

Before laying any porcelain paving, always check the batch numbers printed on the packaging.

Porcelain paving can vary slightly between manufacturing batches in:

  • Shade
  • Tone
  • Surface pattern
  • Texture variation

For the best overall appearance:

  • Ensure all packs are from the same batch where possible
  • Dry lay and blend slabs from multiple packs before installation
  • Do not install paving if there are visible discrepancies without checking first

Once installed, products are considered accepted.

We strongly recommend ordering all porcelain paving required for your project at the same time to minimise the risk of future batch variation.

PREPARATION & PLANNING

Before installation:

  • Measure the area carefully
  • Allow an additional 10โ€“15% for cuts, waste, and breakages
  • Plan the paving layout and joint positions in advance
  • Ensure suitable drainage and falls are incorporated into the design

Recommended fall:

  • Approximately 1:60 to 1:80 (around 1โ€“2%) to prevent standing water

Porcelain paving is ideal for:

  • Patios
  • Garden pathways
  • Courtyards
  • Outdoor dining areas
  • Terraces
  • Commercial outdoor spaces

SUB-BASE PREPARATION

A strong and stable base is essential for long-term durability.

Recommended Build-Up:

  1. Excavate the area to the required depth
  2. Install a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base
  3. Lay a full wet mortar bed using a suitable sharp sand and cement mix

The base must be:

  • Fully compacted
  • Stable and level
  • Free from movement
  • Adequately drained

Porcelain paving should never be laid on:

  • Spot beds
  • Dry sand
  • Uneven or unstable surfaces

A full mortar bed is required to fully support each slab and prevent cracking or movement.

PRIMING SLURRY (ESSENTIAL FOR PORCELAIN)

Porcelain paving is non-porous, meaning it will not naturally bond effectively to mortar without priming.

For this reason, applying a porcelain primer or slurry coat to the underside of every slab is absolutely essential.

Before laying each slab:

  • Apply a full slurry primer coat to the back of the porcelain tile
  • Ensure complete coverage across the underside
  • Lay the slab immediately onto the wet mortar bed

This process:

  • Creates a strong bond between the paving and mortar
  • Helps prevent lifting or movement
  • Reduces the risk of future installation failure

Failure to use slurry primer correctly is one of the most common causes of porcelain paving problems.

LAYING THE PORCELAIN PAVING

When laying porcelain slabs:

  • Use a full wet mortar bed
  • Position slabs carefully and consistently
  • Use tile spacers for even joints
  • Check levels regularly during installation
  • Maintain correct falls for drainage

Recommended joint width:

  • Typically 3โ€“5mm for rectified porcelain paving

Use a rubber mallet carefully to level slabs without damaging edges.

CUTTING PORCELAIN PAVING

Porcelain paving is extremely dense and requires suitable cutting equipment.

Recommended tools:

  • Wet saw with porcelain diamond blade
  • High-quality porcelain cutting disc

Using unsuitable tools may result in:

  • Chipping
  • Poor-quality cuts
  • Cracking

Always wear suitable PPE when cutting porcelain paving.

GROUTING & JOINTING

Once the paving has set fully, joints should be filled using a porcelain-compatible grout or external jointing compound.

Important:

  • Follow manufacturer instructions carefully
  • Remove excess grout residue immediately
  • Do not allow grout haze to dry on the surface

Using the correct grout helps maintain both the appearance and structural performance of the paving installation.

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTES

  • Always blend slabs from multiple packs during installation
  • Batch variation is normal within porcelain paving products
  • Wet paving may appear darker or richer in tone
  • Installed slabs are considered accepted
  • Professional installation is recommended for best results

Proper installation is essential to ensure the long-term durability and appearance of outdoor porcelain paving.

AFTERCARE GUIDE โ€“ OUTDOOR PORCELAIN PAVING

Outdoor porcelain paving is designed to be extremely durable, low maintenance, and easy to care for. Thanks to its dense non-porous surface, porcelain paving resists moisture absorption, staining, algae growth, and general weathering, making it an excellent choice for modern outdoor spaces.

Following a few simple aftercare guidelines will help keep your porcelain paving looking its best for years to come.

GENERAL CLEANING

For routine cleaning, porcelain paving can usually be maintained using:

  • Warm soapy water
  • A soft brush or broom
  • Clean water for rinsing

Regular sweeping will help remove dirt, leaves, and debris before they build up on the surface.

For heavier dirt or marks, specialist porcelain paving cleaners are available and may assist with more stubborn staining or general deep cleaning.

Always follow the manufacturerโ€™s instructions carefully when using cleaning products.

PRESSURE WASHING

Porcelain paving can be cleaned using a jet wash or pressure washer when required.

Recommended:

  • Use moderate pressure only
  • Keep the lance moving continuously
  • Avoid directing high pressure directly into joints

Excessive pressure too close to the surface may damage grout or jointing compounds over time.

SEALING PORCELAIN PAVING

Porcelain paving does not require sealing due to its non-porous surface.

However, some customers may choose to apply a suitable porcelain sealer to:

  • Assist with routine cleaning
  • Help reduce surface residue build-up
  • Provide additional surface protection in high-use areas

If sealing is chosen:

  • Ensure the paving is fully clean and dry beforehand
  • Always use a sealer specifically designed for porcelain paving
  • Follow the sealer manufacturerโ€™s instructions carefully

Please note that sealing porcelain paving is optional rather than essential.

RUST & METAL CONTACT (IMPORTANT)

Although porcelain paving is highly stain resistant, rust marks can still occur if rusty metal objects are left in prolonged contact with the surface.

Please take care with:

  • Metal garden furniture
  • BBQs
  • Plant pots with metal bases
  • Steel tools or equipment
  • Decorative metal items

Rust staining can be difficult to remove if left untreated.

We recommend:

  • Using protective feet or pads beneath metal furniture
  • Avoiding prolonged contact with rusty objects
  • Cleaning any rust marks as soon as possible using a suitable porcelain-safe cleaner

WINTER CARE

Porcelain paving performs exceptionally well in UK weather conditions and is highly frost resistant.

During winter:

  • Remove leaves and organic debris regularly
  • Avoid using harsh metal shovels directly on the surface
  • Use porcelain-safe de-icing products if required

Avoid acid-based cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these may damage grout or surrounding materials.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Wet porcelain paving may appear slightly darker in colour
  • Some temporary installation residue may remain initially and will naturally weather away over time
  • Always test cleaning products on a small inconspicuous area first
  • Avoid abrasive cleaning pads or harsh chemical treatments
