Batch information

Porcelain paving is a man-made product crafted in batches and may exhibit variations in colour and texture from batch to batch. This potential variance means that the porcelain you receive upon ordering may differ slightly from the samples sent, or our showroom displays viewed before making your purchase. To maintain product consistency, we advise against combining different sizes as these will inevitably be different batch codes. It is industry standard to allow an additional 10% on all orders.

Should you have any concerns about these variations, please reach out to our sales team for personalised guidance. We recommend keeping note of the โ€˜batch colour codeโ€™ labelled on the packaging of the delivered porcelain. This is a white label of the side of the pallet and also the packing of each individual slab.

While we strive to source the same batch for future orders, this isnโ€™t guaranteed. Therefore, we encourage ordering sufficient quantities initially to maintain uniformity in your project.

Split packs
Split Packs Available

We offer split packs on selected paving products, including natural stone paving (sandstone, Limestone, slate, granite) and our best-selling 600×900 porcelain paving. This allows you to order the exact square metre coverage you need, helping you avoid the cost and waste of buying a full pack.

This option is ideal forย smaller projects, patios, pathways, or topping up an existing order.

Please note:

  • Split packs are available onย selected products only
  • Mixed-size porcelain paving packs cannot be split
  • Delivery is included in the product price
  • Orders areย securely repacked onto pallets for safe UK delivery
Ordering Advice

When calculating how much paving you need, we recommend addingย 10% extra coverageย to allow forย cuts, breakages, and spare slabsย during installation.

Mixed-size project packs can only beย split by square metre, not by individual slab sizes.

Help & advice

Measurement

Make sure you measure from the longest point to the longest point, side to side and front to back. Use our coverage calculator to help you know what your requirement coverage is.

Add 10% Extra

The recommended industry standard is that you add 10% extra to your total measurements to allow for cuts, wastage, breakages and spares. By placing your order with us, you confirm that you have added this 10% extra as part of your own calculations and purchase.

Minimum Order

We can sell the paving by the sqm, however, for optimal transit, we recommend ordering a minimum of 5 sqm to ensure proper pallet weight.

Coverage

The coverage for each pack size is available on all products under the โ€˜Specificationโ€™ section. This indicates the area that can be covered, including the recommended joint width. Additionally, we provide the pack size, which indicates the number of slabs included in each pack.

Cut of times

For both standard and premium deliveries, the cutoff time for same-day dispatch is 11 a.m. If you need your order urgently and have missed this cutoff time, please call our team, and we will let you know if there is anything we can do to assist you.

Large Orders

Our website showcases all current promotions and discounts, reflecting our commitment to providing the best prices possible. For larger orders, we invite you to call us at 01329 774989, where our dedicated team may be able to offer additional savings.

Samples

We provide a sample service for all our paving products, allowing you to experience the materials before placing an order. You can find this option at the bottom of each product page or on our dedicated samples page.

How we calculate packs/slabs:

Slab quantities are calculated to the nearest match for the square meterage ordered and may be rounded up where required. Mixed-size packs will contain all 4 slab sizes.

Description

Kandla Grey honed sandstone paving in mixed sizes

Bring natural grey tones to your patio with Kandla Grey honed sandstone. Its blend of light and darker grey tones gives each slab individual character, while the honed surface and sawn edges create a smoother, more contemporary appearance than traditional riven sandstone.

This mixed-size patio pack combines different slab formats for a varied laying pattern. It suits garden patios, pathways and courtyards where you want natural stone character without a single-size layout.

Honed surface, natural character

Honing smooths the surface without removing every natural feature. Expect variations in colour, veining, pores and small pits. A sample illustrates the stoneโ€™s character rather than the full colour range of a delivery. Blend slabs from different parts of the delivery as you lay.

Planning your mixed-size patio

Plan the pattern, joints, borders and cuts before ordering. Allow 10โ€“15% extra for cuts, selection and natural variation, adjusting this allowance to your design. Confirm the current pack coverage and size mix with our team before calculating quantities.

Choosing your order quantity

Choose a full pack or order by square metre when available. Mixed-size quantities need to be planned as a combination of slab formats rather than as identical individual slabs.

Installation

Installation Guidance โ€“ Kandla Grey Honed Sandstone

To ensure your project runs smoothly, there are several important considerations to keep in mind when your paving arrives and during installation.

Important Information About Kandla Grey Honed Sandstone

Kandla Grey Honed Sandstone is a natural stone product. Assess it as sandstone rather than comparing it with porcelain paving or machine-manufactured materials. Although sawing and honing create a smooth, contemporary finish, the stone itself remains a natural sandstone with inherent characteristics and imperfections.

Customers should expect:

  • Minor edge chipping
  • Small pits, pores, and divots
  • Fossil markings and natural veining
  • Surface texture variation
  • Tonal and colour variation
  • Slight imperfections from production, handling, transport, and installation

These normal characteristics form part of this material rather than constituting defects. Due to the natural composition of Kandla Grey sandstone, it is impossible to achieve a completely flawless, precision-cut finish similar to porcelain paving.

Some minor chips and imperfections may occur during production, transport, handling, cutting, or installation and fall within normal industry tolerances for natural stone paving. These do not affect the structural integrity or usability of the slabs.

Natural stone paving is an installation material. Assess the overall finished patio rather than each individual slab in isolation. During installation, installers commonly use slabs with more noticeable markings or minor imperfections for cuts, edges, or less prominent areas.

We strongly recommend ordering an additional 10โ€“15% extra material to allow for cuts, wastage, and natural variation. This also provides greater flexibility during installation, allowing customers to select the best slabs for the most visible areas if a more refined finish is desired.

Before Installation

When your paving arrives, it is normal for the slabs to appear dusty, pale, or grey in tone. Natural Indian sandstone often looks dull before installation and cleaning. Wetting the slabs will help reveal the true colour variation and tonal blends within the stone.

Crates contain a random selection of slabs, so colours and tones may not appear in equal proportions. If installing multiple packs, we strongly recommend blending slabs from all packs during installation to achieve the most natural and balanced overall finish.

As sandstone is porous, colours will naturally deepen and become more vibrant over time, particularly once wet or sealed.

We also recommend purchasing all paving for the same area at the same time. Natural stone is not batch-coded, and future orders may vary in colour, tone, or quarry source.

Installation Recommendations

For best results, we strongly recommend using both SBR and a priming slurry on the underside of each slab before laying.

  • SBR helps reduce moisture absorption and minimise staining from the base.
  • Priming slurry improves adhesion and helps achieve full contact with the mortar bed.

Correct installation techniques help reduce the risk of issues such as efflorescence, poor adhesion, hollow spots, and mirror staining.

Always use appropriate cutting equipment and high-quality diamond blades designed for natural stone.

Jointing & Cleaning

Brush-in jointing compounds can provide a durable and convenient finish, although very dark jointing compounds may occasionally cause minor staining on light-coloured stone.

Do not use acid-based cleaners or brick acid on sandstone, as these products can permanently damage the stone surface.

We strongly recommend thoroughly jet washing the paving before jointing and again once the jointing has fully cured.

Sealing Recommendations

We highly recommend sealing natural stone to help protect against staining, algae, moisture absorption and weathering while enhancing its appearance.

Do not apply a non-breathable sealer to natural stone within the first six months after installation. If sealing earlier, use only a breathable natural stone sealer to allow trapped salts and minerals to escape naturally during the curing process.

Care & Maintenance

Protecting the stone during installation

Laying a patio can be messy, so itโ€™s crucial to take care when installing the slabs to avoid any staining, sheet down and board down where possible. If you notice any residue on the slabs during installation, clean it off as soon as possible. Substances like wet cement can be much harder to remove once they dry. Remember, anything that remains on the surface of a slab can seep into the stone and cause stains. Avoid using acid-based products for cleaning.

Natural stone is porous and will absorb liquids from anything left on its surface. Wet leaves, bird droppings, and moss can all create stains, and once these substances penetrate the stone, removing the stains can be very challenging.

Sealing sandstone paving

We recommend sealing sandstone paving to help prevent staining. Sealing also prevents excess moisture from building up within the natural stone, which can help avoid frost damage as well as the growth of moss, mould, and algae. You should seal your paving approximately 12 weeks after installation to allow enough time for the drying process to complete. If you seal within the first six to nine months, use only a breathable sealer.

Efflorescence during drying

As part of the drying process, you may notice efflorescence, which is a white or light grey powdery substance that can appear on the surface of natural stone, especially in damp or humid conditions. Natural salts and minerals cause this effect as they come to the surface of the slabs. Although it may look unsightly, efflorescence will not affect the structural integrity of the stone. This process usually happens within the first three to six months.

Ongoing maintenance

Natural stone requires annual maintenance. Using specific natural stone cleaners and black spot removers can help prolong the life of your patio. Over time, you may need to grind out the joints and redo the jointing to refresh the appearance of the patio.

What colours are in Kandla Grey sandstone?

Kandla Grey combines light and darker grey tones with natural veining and markings. The balance of shades varies naturally between slabs and deliveries.

What does mixed-size paving mean?

The pack contains a combination of slab formats for a varied patio pattern. Plan the layout around the confirmed size mix and pack coverage.

Can I order by square metre?

A square-metre buying option is provided alongside the full-pack option, subject to stock and the available size mix. Contact our team if you need help matching the quantity to your layout.

Can honed sandstone become slippery?

A smooth surface needs particular care when wet or affected by algae. Keep the paving clean and assess its suitability for the location. This product is not described as having a tested slip rating.

How do I care for honed sandstone?

Remove spills promptly, avoid acid-based cleaners and follow the installation and care guidance. Use only cleaners and sealers suitable for this natural stone, testing a small area first.
