Batch information
Porcelain paving is a man-made product crafted in batches and may exhibit variations in colour and texture from batch to batch. This potential variance means that the porcelain you receive upon ordering may differ slightly from the samples sent, or our showroom displays viewed before making your purchase. To maintain product consistency, we advise against combining different sizes as these will inevitably be different batch codes. It is industry standard to allow an additional 10% on all orders.
Should you have any concerns about these variations, please reach out to our sales team for personalised guidance. We recommend keeping note of the โbatch colour codeโ labelled on the packaging of the delivered porcelain. This is a white label of the side of the pallet and also the packing of each individual slab.
While we strive to source the same batch for future orders, this isnโt guaranteed. Therefore, we encourage ordering sufficient quantities initially to maintain uniformity in your project.
Split packs
Split Packs Available
We offer split packs on selected paving products, including natural stone paving (sandstone, Limestone, slate, granite) and our best-selling 600×900 porcelain paving. This allows you to order the exact square metre coverage you need, helping you avoid the cost and waste of buying a full pack.
This option is ideal forย smaller projects, patios, pathways, or topping up an existing order.
Please note:
- Split packs are available onย selected products only
- Mixed-size porcelain paving packs cannot be split
- Delivery is included in the product price

Help & advice
Measurement
Make sure you measure from the longest point to the longest point, side to side and front to back. Use our coverage calculator to help you know what your requirement coverage is.
Add 10% Extra
The recommended industry standard is that you add 10% extra to your total measurements to allow for cuts, wastage, breakages and spares. By placing your order with us, you confirm that you have added this 10% extra as part of your own calculations and purchase.
Minimum Order
We can sell the paving by the sqm, however, for optimal transit, we recommend ordering a minimum of 5 sqm to ensure proper pallet weight.

INSTALLATION GUIDE โ NATURAL STONE COBBLE SETTS
To ensure your project runs smoothly and achieves the best possible finish, there are several important considerations to follow when your cobble setts arrive and throughout the installation process.
WHEN YOUR COBBLES ARRIVE
When your sandstone cobble setts are delivered, it is completely normal for them to appear dusty, pale, or slightly grey. Natural Indian sandstoneโespecially in riven, hand-cut formโoften looks lighter on arrival due to quarry dust and its naturally softer dry tones.
Donโt worryโthis is expected.
To reveal the true colours, we recommend lightly wetting a selection of cobbles before installation. This helps bring out the natural colour variation and allows you to plan a more balanced and consistent blend across your project.
COLOUR BLENDING (IMPORTANT)
Each crate of cobble setts is randomly packed and may not contain an even distribution of tones. If using multiple crates or pallets, it is essential to mix cobbles from all packs during installation.
- Work from at least 3โ4 packs at the same time
- Blend cobbles as you lay them, rather than completing one pack at a time
- This ensures an even distribution of colour variation across the area
Failure to mix packs can result in noticeable patches of similar tones.
As sandstone is naturally porous, colours will gradually deepen over time as the stone absorbs moistureโthis is part of its natural character.
ORDERING YOUR COBBLES
We strongly recommend ordering all cobbles required for your project at the same time, even if installation will be completed in stages.
Natural stone is not batch-coded, and future deliveries may come from a different layer of the quarry, resulting in noticeable variation.
If you are trying to match or extend an existing area, please contact us with photos and we will assist where possible.
BASE PREPARATION
- Excavate to the required depth
- Install a compacted sub-base (e.g. MOT Type 1)
- Ensure a stable, level surface with adequate drainage
A properly prepared base is essential for long-term durability.
PRIMING & INSTALLATION
As with all natural stone products, we strongly recommend using SBR, priming slurry, or ideally both.
- Apply SBR to the underside of each cobble and allow it to dry
- This helps reduce moisture absorption and minimise the risk of staining or efflorescence
- Apply a priming slurry to the full underside before laying
This ensures strong adhesion to the mortar bed and promotes full contact.
Proper priming helps prevent voids beneath the cobbles, which can lead to issues such as mirror staining (white marks appearing on the surface). This can be difficult to correct once installed.
LAYING THE SETTS
- Lay cobbles on a full mortar bed (recommended)
- Position with consistent joint spacing (approx. 8โ12mm)
- Ensure even levels and correct falls for drainage
CUTTING & TOOLS
Always use appropriate tools when cutting natural stone cobbles:
- A suitable diamond blade
- A properly powered disc cutter designed for natural stone
Using incorrect tools may damage the cobbles or result in uneven cuts.
JOINTING YOUR COBBLES
An all-weather brush-in jointing compound can make installation easier while providing good stability.
- Ensure joints are fully filled
- Choose jointing colours carefully
โ ๏ธ Dark jointing compounds may cause slight staining on lighter sandstone edges.
Avoid using acid-based products, as these can permanently damage the stone.
JET WASHING
We recommend:
- Jet washing thoroughly after laying but before jointing
- Once joints are complete and cured, carry out a second clean
This helps remove dust, residue, and installation marks.
Always use moderate pressure and avoid disturbing joints.
SEALING SANDSTONE COBBLES
Sealing is highly recommended to protect your cobbles and enhance their appearance.
You may choose:
- Natural finish sealers to retain the original look
- Colour-enhancing sealers for a richer, โwet lookโ finish
Important guidelines:
- Allow approximately 10โ12 weeks before sealing
- Do not use non-breathable, resin-based sealers within the first 6 months
- If sealing earlier, use a breathable natural stone sealer
This allows moisture and natural salts to escape during the weathering process.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Natural variation in colour and texture is normal and expected
- Stone may appear different when wet, dry, or sealed
- Proper installation is essential to avoid staining or performance issues

CARE & MAINTENANCE โ NATURAL STONE COBBLE SETTS
Proper care and maintenance will help keep your natural stone cobble setts looking their best and performing well over time. As a naturally porous material, stone benefits from careful installation, protection, and routine upkeep.
INSTALLATION CARE
During installation, itโs important to minimise the risk of staining and surface damage:
- Protect the area by sheeting and boarding where possible
- Avoid leaving cement, mortar, or jointing compounds on the surface
- Clean any residue immediately before it dries
Dried cement or slurry can permanently stain natural stone and may be difficult to remove.
Do not use acid-based cleaners, as these can damage and discolour the stone surface.
STAINING & POROSITY
Natural stone cobble setts are porous, meaning they can absorb moisture and surface contaminants.
Common causes of staining include:
- Organic debris such as leaves, soil, and moss
- Bird droppings
- Standing water and general dirt build-up
Regular cleaning and removing debris will help prevent staining and maintain the stoneโs natural appearance.
SEALING NATURAL STONE SETTS
Sealing is recommended to protect your cobble setts from moisture, staining, and general weathering.
Benefits of sealing:
- Reduces water absorption
- Helps prevent moss, algae, and mould growth
- Enhances natural colour variation
- Improves resistance to freeze and thaw conditions
Best practice:
- Allow approximately 10โ12 weeks after installation before sealing
- If sealing within the first 6โ9 months, use a breathable natural stone sealer
- Avoid non-breathable sealers during early stages, as they can trap moisture
EFFLORESCENCE
A white or light powdery residue may appear on the surface after installation. This is known as efflorescence.
- Caused by natural salts rising as moisture evaporates
- Common in newly laid stone
- Harmless and temporary
Efflorescence will typically fade naturally over time as part of the normal weathering process.
ONGOING MAINTENANCE
Routine care will help extend the life and appearance of your cobble setts:
- Clean periodically using water or a specialist natural stone cleaner
- Remove leaves, dirt, and organic material regularly
- Use appropriate cleaners for stubborn marks if required
- Lightly pressure wash when needed (avoid disturbing joints)
- Inspect and maintain jointing over time
Repointing or refreshing joints every few years can improve both durability and appearance.
NATURAL VARIATION
All natural stone products vary in colour, texture, and tone. Weathering over time will enhance the character of the stone, adding to its natural appeal.
