Batch information
Porcelain paving is a man-made product crafted in batches and may exhibit variations in colour and texture from batch to batch. This potential variance means that the porcelain you receive upon ordering may differ slightly from the samples sent, or our showroom displays viewed before making your purchase. To maintain product consistency, we advise against combining different sizes as these will inevitably be different batch codes. It is industry standard to allow an additional 10% on all orders.
Should you have any concerns about these variations, please reach out to our sales team for personalised guidance. We recommend keeping note of the โbatch colour codeโ labelled on the packaging of the delivered porcelain. This is a white label of the side of the pallet and also the packing of each individual slab.
While we strive to source the same batch for future orders, this isnโt guaranteed. Therefore, we encourage ordering sufficient quantities initially to maintain uniformity in your project.
Split packs
Split Packs Available
We offer split packs on selected paving products, including natural stone paving (sandstone, Limestone, slate, granite) and our best-selling 600×900 porcelain paving. This allows you to order the exact square metre coverage you need, helping you avoid the cost and waste of buying a full pack.
This option is ideal forย smaller projects, patios, pathways, or topping up an existing order.
Please note:
- Split packs are available onย selected products only
- Mixed-size porcelain paving packs cannot be split
- Delivery is included in the product price
- Orders areย securely repacked onto pallets for safe UK delivery
Ordering Advice
When calculating how much paving you need, we recommend addingย 10% extra coverageย to allow forย cuts, breakages, and spare slabsย during installation.
Mixed-size project packs can only beย split by square metre, not by individual slab sizes.

Help & advice
Measurement
Make sure you measure from the longest point to the longest point, side to side and front to back. Use our coverage calculator to help you know what your requirement coverage is.
Add 10% Extra
The recommended industry standard is that you add 10% extra to your total measurements to allow for cuts, wastage, breakages and spares. By placing your order with us, you confirm that you have added this 10% extra as part of your own calculations and purchase.
Minimum Order
We can sell the paving by the sqm, however, for optimal transit, we recommend ordering a minimum of 5 sqm to ensure proper pallet weight.
Coverage
The coverage for each pack size is available on all products under the โSpecificationโ section. This indicates the area that can be covered, including the recommended joint width. Additionally, we provide the pack size, which indicates the number of slabs included in each pack.
Cut of times
For both standard and premium deliveries, the cutoff time for same-day dispatch is 11 a.m. If you need your order urgently and have missed this cutoff time, please call our team, and we will let you know if there is anything we can do to assist you.
Large Orders
Our website showcases all current promotions and discounts, reflecting our commitment to providing the best prices possible. For larger orders, we invite you to call us at 01329 774989, where our dedicated team may be able to offer additional savings.

About Our Indian Sandstone Cobble Setts
Choose our Autumn Brown Indian Sandstone Cobble Setts to enhance your outdoor space with authentic, hand-cut natural stone. These setts are perfect for creating strong, visually appealing surfacesโwhether youโre building a garden path, edging a patio, or laying a hard-wearing driveway.
Cobble setts typically come in smaller uniform sizes (e.g., 100x100mm, 100x200mm, 200x150mm depending on your stock), making them perfect for curved designs, decorative borders, or areas that require extra strength and stability.
Each cobble sett is crafted from quarried natural sandstone and features:
-
Riven, textured surfaces for a rustic, slip-resistant finish
-
Hand-cut edges adding character and authenticity
-
Beautiful tonal variableโno two cobbles are identical
-
Strong density and durability, ideal for high-traffic areas
Our cobble setts are calibrated to the appropriate depth (usually 40โ50mm or 50โ60mm depending on your product line), ensuring easier installation and consistent laying.
Important Considerations
The images shown provide a guide to the colour tones and patterns you can expect once the setts are installed. Photos may show the stone in different conditionsโwet, dry, or sealed.
Remember:
-
Sandstone appears richer and deeper when wet
-
Dry stone shows more muted, pastel-like tones
-
Lighting and sealing products can affect the final appearance
Because sandstone is a natural material sourced from large quarries, colour variable will occur from sett to sett and pack to pack. This natural variable is what gives Indian sandstone its unique, characterful charm.
Upon arrival, cobble setts may appear dusty or lighter due to quarry residue. Wetting them or unpacking them to air-dry will help reveal their true colours and natural tonal variable.
As with all sandstone, cobbles are porous. After installation and jointing, the stone will begin to weather naturally. Sealing is recommended after a short settling period. You may choose:
-
Colour-enhancing sealers for a wet-look effect
-
Natural-look sealers to maintain a dry, rustic finish

Important Considerations for Sandstone Cobble Setts
To ensure your project runs smoothly, there are several important considerations to keep in mind both when your cobble setts arrive and during the installation process.
When Your Cobbles Arrive
When your sandstone cobble setts are delivered, itโs completely normal for them to appear dusty, pale, or grey. Natural Indian Sandstoneโespecially in its riven and hand-cut formโoften looks much lighter on arrival due to quarry dust and its naturally pastel dry tones. This can make the cobbles look dull compared to the images shown on our website.
Donโt worryโthis is expected!
To reveal the true colours of Autumn Brown sandstone, we recommend lightly wetting the surface of several cobbles before installation. This helps bring out the natural colour variable and allows you to plan a more balanced blend of tones across your driveway, path, or patio border.
Mixing Colours From Multiple Packs
Each crate of cobble setts is randomly packed and may not contain an even distribution of tones. If you are ordering multiple crates or pallets, we strongly advise mixing cobbles from all pallets during installation. This ensures a consistent colour spread throughout the entire area.
As sandstone is naturally porous, it will gradually absorb moisture over time and the colours will naturally deepenโthis is part of the stoneโs charm.
Order All Cobbles for Your Area at Once
We recommend purchasing all the cobbles required for the same installation area at the same time, even if the project will be completed in stages. Natural stone is not batch-coded, and future pallets may come from a different layer or section of the quarry, resulting in noticeable variable.
If you are extending or matching an existing sandstone cobble area, please contact us and send photosโwe can help you source the closest possible match.
Priming & Installation of Cobble Setts
As with all natural stone products, we strongly recommend using a priming slurry, SBR, or ideally both, when installing sandstone cobbles.
-
First apply SBR to the underside of each cobble and allow it to dry. This forms a protective barrier that reduces moisture absorption and helps prevent issues such as efflorescence or staining from the bedding layer.
-
Then apply a priming slurry to the full underside to ensure strong adhesion to the base.
This promotes full contact with the mortar bed, reducing the risk of gaps that can lead to mirror staining (white marks showing through the top surface). Mirror staining is difficult to correct, so proper installation is essential.
Tools & Cutting Recommendations
Always use the correct tools when cutting natural stone cobbles. Ensure you have:
-
An appropriate diamond blade
-
A suitably powered disc cutter designed for cutting natural stone
Using the wrong equipment can damage the cobbles or cause uneven cuts.
Jointing Your Cobbles
An all-weather brush-in jointing compound can make jointing your cobble setts much easier while offering excellent stability. Be aware that very dark jointing compounds may leave slight staining on the edges of lighter-coloured sandstone, so choose carefully.
Avoid using any acid-based cleaners or products on natural sandstoneโthese can cause permanent damage to the stoneโs surface.
Jet Washing Recommendations
We strongly recommend jet washing your cobbles thoroughly after installation but before jointing. Once the joints have been completed and cured, give the area a second jet wash to remove any remaining dust or residue.
Sealing Sandstone Cobbles
Sealing is highly recommended for natural sandstone cobbles. You can choose from:
-
Natural finish sealers that retain the original dry look
-
Colour-enhancing sealers that deepen the tones for a โwet lookโ finish
Always follow the manufacturerโs instructions.
Important: Natural stone should not be sealed with a non-breathable resin-based sealer (such as varnish-style sealers) within the first six months. If you wish to seal sooner, use a breathable natural stone sealer that allows trapped minerals and salts to escape naturally during the weathering process.
For more information, or if you need help with installation, sealing, or aftercare, please contact our team on 01329 238150.
Laying cobble setts can be a messy process, so itโs important to take extra care during installation to minimise staining. Always sheet down and board your working area where possible to protect the cobbles from excess cement, slurry, or debris. If any residue does get onto the surface during installation, clean it off immediately. Once substances such as wet cement or mortar begin to dry, they can be extremely difficult to remove and may permanently mark the stone. Avoid using any acid-based cleaning products, as they can damage sandstone.
Natural Stone Staining
Indian sandstone cobble setts are naturally porous, meaning they can easily absorb liquids or residues left on their surface. Wet leaves, bird droppings, soil, and moss can all cause staining if left to sit on the stone. Once these penetrate the cobbles, removing the marks can be challenging, so regular cleaning and preventative measures are essential.
Sealing Sandstone Cobble Setts
To protect your cobbles from staining, moisture absorption, and frost damage, we recommend sealing your sandstone setts. Sealing helps slow down moisture penetration, reduces the growth of moss, mould, and algae, and helps the cobbles retain their colour.
For best results:
-
Seal approximately 12 weeks after installation to allow the stone and bedding layers to dry naturally.
-
If sealing within the first 6โ9 months, only use a breathable natural stone sealer. Non-breathable sealers can trap moisture, causing unwanted mineral deposits or surface issues.
Efflorescence (Natural Salt Residue)
During the early months after installation, you may notice a white or pale grey powdery residue on the cobbles. This is known as efflorescence and is completely natural. It occurs when mineral salts rise to the surface as the stone dries, particularly in damp or humid conditions.
Efflorescence does not harm the stone and usually clears on its own within 3โ6 months as part of the natural weathering process.
Ongoing Maintenance
Sandstone cobble setts benefit from simple, routine care to keep them looking their best. Annual maintenance is recommended. This may include:
-
Using specialist natural stone cleaners
-
Applying black spot remover if required
-
Gently jet washing (avoid excessive pressure near joints)
-
Removing organic debris such as leaves and moss
-
Re-jointing areas where mortar or compound has worn away over time
Refreshing the jointing every few years can revitalise the appearance of your cobbled area and extend its lifespan.
